How to Fix a “Write Error” in NFC Tools

What does “Write Error” mean?

A “Write Error” means NFC Tools could not finish saving the information to your Review⚡️Zaps Card or Stand.

Common causes include:

  • Your phone is not positioned over its NFC antenna
  • The phone moved away too soon
  • The review link is too large for the NFC tag
  • Extra records are being written
  • The tag was permanently locked

Follow the steps below to identify the problem.

1. Check Your Phone’s NFC Tap Spot

Phone models place their NFC antenna in different locations, so positioning matters when writing to your Review⚡️Zaps product.

Use our free:

NFC Tap Spot Finder

Search your exact phone model to see the recommended NFC tap location.

Then:

  1. Tap Write in NFC Tools
  2. Position the NFC area of your phone directly over the Card or Stand
  3. Hold the phone steady until NFC Tools confirms the write is complete

If writing still fails, remove any thick or metal phone case and try again.

2. Check the Amount of Data You Are Writing

NFC Tools displays the size of the records beside the Write button, usually as:

Write / XX Bytes

The information must fit within the NFC tag’s available storage.

To keep the record size as small as possible:

  • Keep only the URL record needed for your Google review link
  • Remove duplicate or unnecessary records
  • Make sure no business name or extra text was pasted into the URL field
  • Avoid using a long Google Maps URL copied directly from your browser

The easiest way to get a compact review link is to use our free:

Google Review Link Generator

Search for your business, select the correct location, and click COPY MY REVIEW LINK.

We also recommend clicking TEST MY LINK first to confirm it opens the correct Google review page.

Erasing the tag does not increase its storage capacity. If the record is too large, the amount of data being written must be reduced.

3. Check Whether the Tag Was Permanently Locked

If you previously used Lock Tag in NFC Tools, the tag cannot be erased or rewritten.

A permanently locked NFC tag cannot be unlocked through repeated scanning or by erasing it.

If you are unsure whether the tag was locked, contact us before continuing.

4. Erase the Tag and Write the Link Again

If the tag is not permanently locked and the earlier steps did not resolve the problem, try erasing it and starting over.

Before erasing the tag, keep a copy of the Google review link you want to use.

  1. Open NFC Tools
  2. Tap Other
  3. Tap Erase Tag
  4. Hold your phone over the NFC Product until NFC Tools confirms it has been erased
  5. Return to Write
  6. Tap Add a Record
  7. Tap Add Custom URL/URI
  8. Paste your Google review link
  9. Tap OK
  10. Tap Write / XX Bytes
  11. Hold your phone over the correct NFC tap spot until writing is complete

Afterward, test your Review⚡️Zaps Card or Stand and confirm that it opens the correct Google review page.
